4.26 million tourists visited Hainan Island for holidays of Mid-Autumn festival and the National Day

During the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, 2023, Hainan received over 4.26 million tourists with a total tourism revenue of 6.488 billion yuan. Compared to the same period in 2019, the number of tourists increased by 181.5% and tourism revenue grew by 256.2%, marking a 2.8% and 24.0% increase respectively.

Among the key observations during this holiday period, Hainan's tourist attractions received 3.5883 million visitors, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 262.7% and a 20.9% increase compared to 2019.

The A-level tourist attractions alone welcomed 2.1901 million visitors, showing a 251.2% increase compared to last year and a 10.5% increase compared to 2019. The average occupancy rate of commercial tourist accommodations in the province was 60.0%, while the average occupancy rate of 169 gold, silver, and copper-rated B&Bs reached 60.5%.

Overall, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday in Hainan exhibited several characteristics: the development of a comprehensive tourism framework, a richer and more diverse product supply, improved comfort for tourists, a balance between sightseeing and leisure, a further increase in the proportion of vacation-oriented activities, the emergence of highlights across the province, and a stable and orderly tourism market.

It is worth noting that Hainan's cultural and tourism sector organized over 30 tourist routes such as coastal amusement, leisure and health, beautiful countryside, red heritage, sports, and ethnic minority customs. Additionally, there were 204 cultural and sports events, including 92 tourism festivals, 39 cultural and tourism integration activities, 28 artistic performances, 17 mass reading events, 18 exhibitions, and approximately 10 sports events, enriching the holiday experiences of locals and tourists.

During the holiday, cultural events were prominent, with Hainan Provincial Museum, China (Hainan) South China Sea Museum, Hainan Dama Museum, and other cultural and museum venues becoming popular destinations for citizens and tourists to learn about Hainan's cultural history and experience its intangible cultural heritage. All museums in the province received around 216,000 visitors, with Hainan Provincial Museum receiving over 13,000 visitors on National Day, setting a new record for daily visitors.

Regarding the "tourism + sports" aspect, the 14th Hainan International Road Cycling Race took place after a four-year hiatus, attracting 140 participants from 20 teams representing 13 countries. The race also stimulated sports tourism consumption in cities and counties along the route. Wan'ning Riyue Bay carried on the momentum of hosting high-end surfing competitions, with multiple surfing clubs offering different trendy sports activities every day, attracting a young crowd and averaging over 20,000 visitors per day.
