Sanya, located on the southern tip of Hainan Island in China, is a tropical paradise renowned for its pristine beaches, azure waters, and vibrant culture. With its year-round warm climate, Sanya is often referred to as the "Hawaii of China."

The name "Sanya" is derived from two Chinese characters: "三" (sān) and "亚" (yà). "三" (sān) means "three" in Chinese, while "亚" (yà) refers to "Asia." The name "Sanya" was given to the city due to its geographical location in southern China, specifically the southernmost point of Hainan Island. The name signifies that Sanya is the southernmost city in China, hence the combination of "三" (sān) and "亚" (yà) to form "Sanya."

As we know, Hainan island is surrounded by the ocean (the South China Sea), and Sanya is just on the southern tip, there are lots of natural and beautiful beaches. Right now some of them have been open to public such as beaches of Yalong Bay, Dadonghai, Haitang Bay, Sanya Bay, West island, Wuzhizhou island, etc. where visitors can indulge in sunbathing, swimming, and water sports such as snorkeling and scuba diving. The crystal-clear waters teem with colorful coral reefs and a diverse array of marine life. Please click here for more information about beaches in Hainan.
